Doc Rivers: Three teams called agent within five hours of leaving Clippers

The 76ers announced Doc Rivers as their new head coach on Saturday, but apparently Rivers had more suitors than just Philadelphia.

Rivers revealed Monday that three teams called his agent within five hours of him leaving the Los Angeles Clippers, according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps.

Rivers and the Clippers parted ways last Monday, and he reportedly met with Philadelphia on Wednesday, agreeing to a five-year deal just one day after their meeting.

The 58-year-old will be tasked with helping the Sixers go past the second round of the playoffs, which is something they haven't accomplished since the 2000-01 campaign — the same year Allen Iverson was named MVP.

Before joining Philadelphia and parting ways with the Clippers, Rivers coached the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics. He led the Celtics to an NBA title in 2008 and Eastern Conference championship during the 2009-10 campaign.
