Double Vision: Celtics’ Marcus Smart competes with heart

This space aims to identify players who represent good value for recording a double-double in a particular game. If they post double-digit totals in any two of the five main categories (points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals), backers will at least double their money – and sometimes make much more than that.

The bet: A double-double for Celtics guard Marcus Smart (+850 DraftKings)

The longest-tenured member of Boston’s suddenly struggling team, Smart has already played in more than 100 postseason games. He hasn’t been swept in a playoff series since his rookie year, when LeBron James and the Cavaliers steamrolled the Celtics in the first round.

With James’ current squad, the Lakers, having just endured the indignity of losing four straight games to the Nuggets, Smart will be doing everything in his power to avoid a similar fate at the hands of the Heat. He opened the series promisingly by scoring 13 points and dishing out 11 assists, and Game 3 saw him finish just under double figures in all three main categories. He also fell a single assist shy of a double-double in two of his three regular-season tilts with Miami.

On Boston’s run to the Finals last season, Smart posted double-doubles to end the first two series and was a rebound away from another in closing out the Heat. To stave off elimination and restore Celtic pride, he’ll need to be at his playmaking best tonight.
