Draymond Green speaks on Robert Sarver's lax NBA punishment: 'That's bulls***'
Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver was suspended by the NBA for one year while also fined $10 million after the league investigated him and the Suns for allegations of workplace misconduct.
According to Sports Illustrated, the investigation uncovered the fact that "Sarver said the n-word at least five times during his 18-year ownership tenure in Phoenix"
Sarver was also alleged to have made "sex-related" comments towards female employees, "inappropriate comments about the physical appearance" of employees (both men and women) and "engaged in “inappropriate physical conduct toward male employees.”
That's a laundry list of sins against the owner and it's worth noting that many, including Chris Paul, who plays for the Suns, and LeBron James, believe the league's punishment is rather light considering the level of misconduct.
You can now add Draymond Green to the list of superstar players unhappy with the league's decision. The Golden State Warriors forward said that the league's level of punishment is "insane".
“I do think it’s absolutely insane that Robert Sarver’s just gonna receive a one-year ban and $10 million fine and just return to the sidelines next year and return to the building next year,” Green said on his podcast. “It actually goes against everything that the NBA stands for.
"The NBA stands for inclusion. The NBA stands for diversity. The NBA definitely stands against bigotry and racism, and I commend Adam Silver, our commissioner, and the entire staff at the league office for the stance that they've taken over the years. I don't think there's any other organization or league that supports their players like the NBA supports us," he continued.
"But, for everything that the NBA stands against and stands for, this report that came out last week is the total opposite of everything that the NBA stands for. And so, to think that someone like Robert Sarver that's acting in that manner can continue to represent us, that's bulls***," Green empathetically said. "You can't continue to represent way more people than yourself with those views. With speaking to people the way he did. With treating African Americans and women the way he has. That's not okay."
Green is probably far from the last NBA star to comment on this manner, so stay tuned.
