Former All-Star wants Trae Young in San Antonio: 'A match made in heaven'
Trae Young is currently absent from the Atlanta Hawks rotation due to injury. On Sunday, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported that the All-Star guard requires surgery for a torn ligament in his fifth finger on his left hand.
When discussing Young's current injury issue, former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins revealed that he's hoping not to see Young play for the Hawks again.
His comments came via the "Bully Ball" podcast with Rachel Nichols.
"I hope this is the last time we see him in a Hawks uniform," Cousins said. "I feel like his talent is being wasted. His prime is being wasted. Get healthy. Get yourself 100% correct. Whether that's in Atlanta or whether that's with the San Antonio Spurs. It's a match made in heaven. It just makes sense. This Hawks team isn't doing anything for his talent. I take it personally because I was in that situation once. Hopefully, this offseason, he puts his foot down, uses his power, and moves to a situation that's gonna be healthy for him."
Young has been mentioned in trade rumors over the past few weeks. Originally, Dejounte Murray was seen as the logical trade chip for Atlanta. However, the Hawks are rumored to be weighing their options.
Young would fetch a bigger return on the trade market. Atlanta has also struggled to build around his elite offensive skill set. His defense has been a significant question the Hawks have been unable to answer.
A potential trade to the San Antonio Spurs appears to be the media's destination of choice. By teaming up with Victor Wembanyama, Young would be creating a dynamic duo that can dominate on both sides of the floor.
Young would be the logical next piece in San Antonio's puzzle. The Spurs also have the necessary assets to produce an enticing trade package.
