Former SuperSonics great linked to alleged drive-by shooting

Former Seattle SuperSonics great Shawn Kemp could be in some very hot water.

Kemp was allegedly involved in a drive-by shooting and booked into Pierce County Jail in Washington on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pierce (Wash.) Corrections Inmate listing.

According to the Tacoma Police Department, a shooting occurred in a mall parking lot Wednesday just shy of 2:00 PM following an "altercation between the occupants of two cars." The incident resulted in the subsequent arrest of a 53-year-old man, presumably Kemp.

This isn't Kemp's first run-in with the law since his playing career ended following the 2002-2003 season. In 2005, Kemp pled guilty to drug possession after police found him and another man with cocaine and a firearm in Shoreline, Washington. A year later, in 2006, police arrested Kemp for misdemeanor marijuana possession in Houston, Texas.

A six-time All-Star, Kemp is a name synonymous with the SuperSonics. Drafted 17th overall by Seattle in the 1989 NBA Draft, Kemp spent the first eight seasons of his NBA career in the Emerald City.

Kemp averaged 16.2 points and 9.6 rebounds over 625 career games with the organization, rising to superstardom thanks to his insanely aggressive dunks.

The 53-year-old played 14 seasons in the NBA for the Sonics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trailblazers, and Orlando Magic. Kemp finished his career averaging 14.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists over 1,051 career games.

This is a developing story and you can expect further details to follow in the days ahead.
