Friday's Mavericks-Rockets game postponed due to severe weather

The extreme winter weather conditions that left thousands of Texas residents without power and hot water has claimed its second NBA game of the week.

On Thursday, the Association confirmed that Friday's Dallas Mavericks at Houston Rockets clash has been postponed "due to government shutdown of Toyota Center because of severe weather conditions in Houston."

The NBA didn't include a makeup date for the matchup in its brief statement.

Previously, Wednesday's game between the Mavericks and Detroit Pistons was called off because of the inclement weather that caused some grocery stores across multiple states to close their doors. The NHL's Dallas Stars have had four consecutive games postponed, and multiple college basketball contests were also scrapped.

Meanwhile, veteran NFL cornerback Pierre Desir donated 10,000 meals to the Houston Food Bank after learning of the situation in the area.

The Mavericks fell to 13-15 overall via a 121-118 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers last Sunday and could play another road game before they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. Houston, meanwhile, is 11-17 and is next scheduled to welcome the Indiana Pacers to town for a Saturday showdown, but the status of that game is up in the air heading into the weekend.
