There has been a lot of talk of late surrounding Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors. After the Dubs suffered a season-ending Play-In loss to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, more than a few folks argued that Klay may have already played his final game in a Warriors uniform.
Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has now spoken out about Thompson’s tenure with the team, and it seems like there’s a big chance we see the five-time All-Star back on the roster in 2024-25.

One of the biggest questions Dunleavy had to face during his exit interview on Thursday was, of course, about whether or not the team intends to keep Thompson beyond this season. The high-ranking Warriors executive did not beat around the bush as he declared the organization’s unquestionable desire to retain Thompson’s services:
“Certainly, we want Klay back, first and foremost. I expressed that to him yesterday,” Dunleavy said. “Our players have expressed that, our coaches, front office, ownership. Look, everybody wants Klay back. He’s still a really good player.”
Dunleavy went on to say that he firmly believes the Warriors have enough good players and assets to remain competitive next season and beyond, which is also why they are looking to keep Klay on board.
The Feeling is Mutual
Dunleavy was then asked if he believes Thompson feels the same way. According to the Dubs GM, all signs are pointing towards Klay wanting to stay as well:
“I think it’s a mutual feeling,” Dunleavy said. “The guy’s been here a long time. He means so much to the organization. We really, really value him. There’s nothing that would make me think that he wants to go somewhere else or we don’t want him back. For that reason, I’m hopeful we can make it happen.
“But it’s a deal. Both sides (have) got to be good with it. We’ll work through that.”
That’s all well and good, but until pen is put to paper, nothing is guaranteed.
