Harrison Barnes stays with Kings on three-year, $54 million extension

Pending unrestricted free agent Harrison Barnes isn't going anywhere.

He's been a big part of the Sacramento Kings' rise from the basement of the NBA's Western Conference for the past five seasons and he's going to stay in Sacramento for the next few.

ESPN is reporting that Barnes and the Kings have agreed on a contract extension. Instead of hitting unrestricted free agency, Barnes will remain a King on a new three-year, $54 million deal.

Barnes, 31, is an integral member of an otherwise young-ish Sacramento Kings team that is bursting with contender potential thanks to the likes of forward Domantas Sabonis (19.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 2022-23) and point guard De'Aaron Fox (25 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game in 2022-23).

At this point of his career, Barnes is an established pro, having won an NBA Championship in 2015 with the Golden State Warriors after being drafted with the seventh overall pick in 2012 out of North Carolina.

Barnes has averaged 14.2 points and five rebounds a game over 12 seasons — averaging 15 points and 4.5 rebounds last season for the Kings on 47.3% shooting from the field and 37.4% from behind the three-point line. He averaged 10.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in an effort to push the Golden State Warriors to seven games in the 2022-23 playoffs.

He's one of only three players this past season to start all 82 regular season games.
