Hawks, Clint Capela agree to two-year, $46 million extension

The Atlanta Hawks and Clint Capela have agreed to a two-year, $46 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, tying him to the franchise through the 2024-25 season.

Capela had two years remaining on his current contract and will now make $82 million over the next four seasons.

Capela played a significant role in Atlanta's run to the Eastern Conference finals last season, averaging 15.2 points and a league-leading 14.3 rebounds during the regular season.

He joined the Hawks in a 2020 trade from the Houston Rockets, where he had spent the first six seasons of his NBA career after being drafted 25th overall in 2014.

Capela is the third Atlanta starter to sign an extension this summer, joining Trae Young and John Collins. Atlanta has now locked in its core group of players until at least 2025, when Bogdan Bogdanovic is set to become a free agent.

Kevin Huerter, De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish will be the next players in need of an extension with the Hawks.
