The Hawks coaching staff is rounding into form under Quin Snyder, with Marc Stein reporting that Atlanta is nearing a deal to hire Igor Kokoskov.

As Stein writes, Kokoskov is expected to be the top assistant under Snyder. The native Serbian was the first head coach born and raised outside of North America when the Suns hired him in 2018, but he was quickly dismissed following the season after they severely underachieved with a 19-63 record.

Kokoskov has extensive experience as an assistant coach, logging over 20 seasons with the Clippers, Pistons, Suns, Cavaliers, Jazz, Kings, Magic, and Mavericks. Most recently, he spent this past season with the Nets.

He’s heralded for his creative style of coaching and player development, which the Hawks have lacked under Nate McMillan. This news comes after Antonio Lang and longtime Notre Dame coach Mike Brey joined Snyder’s coaching staff, which has become one of the more notable in The Association.
