Heat star Jimmy Butler won't play for Team USA at Tokyo Olympics

Jimmy Butler will get some much-needed rest this summer. 

The Miami Heat star has opted not to play for Team USA at this summer's Tokyo Olympics, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Butler and Heat teammates Bam Adebayo and Duncan Robinson were among USA Basketball's 57 finalists for the Olympic team. His decision to not participate in the Olympics comes after Miami began the 2020-21 campaign on short rest following a trip to the NBA Finals the season prior. 

Butler had a solid 2020-21 season, averaging 21.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 24.5% from deep. 

However, he had his fair share of health battles. The 31-year-old missed time after contracting COVID-19 and also had issues with his ankle, foot, knee, back and eye.

While he won't compete, USA Basketball has received commitments from Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green and Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard.
