Heat's Avery Bradley was 'really nervous' after positive COVID-19 test

Miami Heat guard Avery Bradley voluntarily opted out of participating in the NBA summer resumption when he was still with the Los Angeles Lakers held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex because his young son has a history of chronic respiratory issues.

Thus, it's understandable the 30-year-old was frightened to learn last month that he tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Bradley isolated away from his family for nearly two weeks and ultimately kept them safe from catching the virus.

"I was really nervous," Bradley said on Tuesday. "It's just a blessing that no one in my household got COVID. It made me feel a lot more at ease. It was just frustrating knowing that the virus is still around. It's been tough. It's been tough for me and my family, but we're getting through it. I'm happy my kids didn't have it, my wife didn't have it, that made me feel a lot better.

"But it was tough not being around my family for 11 days, I think it was, not being able to see them, hug my kids, hug my wife. And I'm happy that it's all over."

Bradley has appeared in only 10 games this season and missed time due to the positive coronavirus test result, a bruised knee and a strained calf muscle that could keep him sidelined through early March. Despite those setbacks and concerns related to the pandemic, Bradley added that he hopes to return before the league's winter break that runs March 5-10.

"It's really frustrating," Bradley explained. "It's unfortunate, catching COVID, having the knee contusion and now this. It's very frustrating. All I can do is continue to stay professional and make sure I'm doing everything I can do to get back as soon as possible, make sure I'm able to contribute and help our team in every way I can."

Bradley is averaging 8.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists this season. The Heat are 9-14 overall heading into Tuesday's matchup against the New York Knicks.
