During Saturday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets, Charlotte Hornets rookie Brandon Miller, the second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, sustained a right ankle sprain.
The injury occurred as Miller drove to the basket, and Nuggets’ Peyton Watson landed on his ankle. Miller had to leave the game and head to the locker room.
Initially, there was hope that Miller could return to the game, but the Hornets later confirmed that he would not be playing for the remainder of the night. Before his exit, Miller had contributed four points in 11 minutes.
Miller’s injury adds to the challenges faced by the Hornets, who are currently on a seven-game losing streak. The rookie has been a critical player for Charlotte this season, averaging 14.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
The absence of other vital players compounds the Hornets’ injury woes: LaMelo Ball is out with an ankle injury, Terry Rozier is sidelined with a knee issue, and center Mark Williams is dealing with a back injury. This series of injuries poses significant hurdles for the team as they navigate the current season.
With Miller potentially out for upcoming games, Bryce McGowens and Nick Smith Jr. are expected to receive increased playing time for the Hornets.
The Hornets rank 13th in the Eastern Conference, holding a 7-20 record. The team’s ongoing health issues significantly challenge their chances of competing for a play-in tournament spot. They are already 4.0 games back from the 10th-ranked Chicago Bulls.
