Hornets fire radio announcer following tweet that included racial slur
ESPN and other outlets are reporting that the Charlotte Hornets have parted ways with radio play-by-play announcer John Focke after he violated the club's policy regarding the use of social media.
Charlotte originally suspended Focke after he tweeted a racial slur while attempting to comment on a playoff game between the Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets on Aug. 17. The tweet included the N-word instead of "Nuggets."
Focke apologized for the tweet that night.
In a team statement shared by the Hornets, the club said:
"Since this is a personnel matter, the organization will not comment any further. The Hornets thank John for all of his efforts during the 2019-20 season."
