Dante Exum had one of the best stories in the NBA before multiple injuries began to sideline him for much of the Dallas Mavericks' recent games since January 1, appearing in only three games during this period.

Exum is expected to begin non-contact participation in practice on Wednesday, with the possibility of returning at some point shortly after Thursday's matchup against the Phoenix Suns — but he will remain sidelined for that game.

"No setback. He's been working out," Mavs coach Jason Kidd said of Exum after Tuesday's practice. "He'll practice tomorrow, non-contact. I think the plan is for somewhere on that road trip to get him back."

Not only has Exum been effective for the Mavs, but he's managed to produce a career-best year, averaging 9.2 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.8 rebounds in 32 games. He's shooting 57.1 percent from the floor and 47.7 percent from beyond the arc, proving his success in EuroLeague can be sustainable.

Whether Exum was playing on the wing next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving or serving as a guard in the backcourt with one or neither of those superstar talents, he's proven capable of being a fitting complementary piece and playmaker.

Watch the in-depth breakdown of Exum on my YouTube channel. You can check out the Mavs' press availabilities, and other content can be viewed there throughout the season.

After the Mavs face off against the Suns without Exum in the lineup, they will embark on a four-game road trip, beginning with a stop in Indiana on Sunday. From that point on, Exum could potentially return to the lineup, but the timing remains to be seen before more information is available as he sees how his body responds.
