The New York Knicks–Indiana Pacers playoff series is a rivalry that dates back to the 1990s — and even further back. There are few more memorable players that terrorized the Knicks two/three decades ago than Pacers icon Reggie Miller.
The Hall of Famer has now spoken out about this second-round playoff matchup after his Pacers lost Game 1 in New York. The 58-year-old has come out with a stern warning for the Knicks and the city of New York about what’s to come.
Indiana Pacers News: Reggie Miller Is Coming to Town
Miller will be making his return to Madison Square Garden for Game 2. He obviously won’t be suiting up for the Pacers, but he will be part of the TNT broadcast that will be calling the game. At this point, it is abundantly clear that Miller is more than ready to rekindle an old flame:
“Just know, the Boogeyman is coming back to town to call the game,” Miller said half-jokingly during an interview on The Dan Patrick Show on Monday (h/t ESPN). “I am coming.”
To be fair, Miller did promise that he would remain professional throughout the broadcast and that he wouldn’t have any bias toward the Pacers. Be that as it may, we all know which team he will be rooting for deep down — and Knicks fans know this well, too.
“I’m sure I’ll hear the chants, I’m sure I’ll hear all those naughty words,” Miller said of the fans in MSG. “I’m good with that, but I’m there to do a job, to call a game. I’m sure this will be a great series.
“… I will be surprised during the game if I don’t hear, ‘Reggie sucks.’ Actually, I’ll be a little hurt if I don’t hear, ‘Reggie sucks.’ I kind of want that.”
Some things never change. Miller has always loved playing the antagonist — especially against the Knicks — and is very much looking forward to resuming this all-too-familiar role come Game 2.
