Is Trae Young's relationship with coach Lloyd Pierce reaching a boiling point?

It seems that Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce may not be around for a third season in Atlanta.

Although Pierce has helped turn point guard Trae Young into an All-Star, The Athletic's Chris Kirschner reports the two have been experiencing a disconnect recently due to coaching decisions Young didn't agree with.

Kirschner reports his sources have confirmed that Young's relationship with Pierce is shaky. He goes on to say if the relationship isn't strong enough to endure then Lloyd would be more likely to receive the boot than Young, who is a rising star in the NBA.

Apparently, other players have questioned Pierce's in-game decisions and some felt the Hawks were tanking. Kirschner does say this seems a little unfair to Pierce, but things could be better if the team won more games (the Hawks were 20-47 when the season was suspended).

In his second season with the Hawks, Young is averaging 29.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game, shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three-point range. The 21-year-old Young is a vital part to the Hawks' future, so it wouldn't be surprising if Pierce gets canned sooner than later.

If that does happen, former Detroit Pistons head coach and president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy could become a candidate for a coaching vacancy in Atlanta.
