NBA Summer League is a great time for front offices, coaches, and fans to watch some of the young talent or two-way players that could contribute to their team. One player who displayed that he has the skill to be playing the Cleveland Cavaliers once the regular season begins is Isaiah Mobley.
The Cavs showed off their ability and went all the way to the Summer League's championship and won it all. At the center of this run was Mobley who excelled on both ends of the floor.
He averaged 17.8 points per game, shot 49 percent from the floor, and grabbed 8.3 rebounds per game. He also led the team averaging one steal a night and was second with 1.5 blocks per game on defense.
It was shocking that Mobley was left off the All-Summer League First and Second teams after the consolation games were finished. However, Mobley was handed the Summer League Championship MVP trophy after Cleveland beat the Houston Rockets in the Championship game which slightly made up for this.
He scored 28 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and scored the game-winning basket in that game.
These accolades and stats more than show Mobley is ready to play with the NBA team. There is a path for Mobley to find a spot in Cleveland's rotation too.
First off, the Cavs have an empty roster spot. Mobley is currently on a two-way deal, so Koby Altman and the organization could sign Isaiah to a full NBA roster spot if they wanted to.
But is there a need for Mobley to have a full-time spot on Cleveland's roster? The argument can be made there is.
We all know one of the Cavaliers' biggest weaknesses last season was their size and frontcourt depth. This was greatly exposed against the New York Knicks. The Cavs tried to address this by trading for Damian Jones, but adding another forward can't hurt.
That's where Mobley comes into play. Adding him to the bench unit would give the Cavs more size and give them greater depth at power forward.
Is this something the Cavaliers will do? Time will tell. But based on what Mobley has been able to show, he's certainly deserving of being given the opportunity.
