Ja Morant wants explanation from voter who prevented unanimous Rookie of the Year choice
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant was just one vote shy of unanimously winning the NBA's 2019-20 Rookie of the Year Award. One media member voted for New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson, and Morant wasn't too happy about it.
Morant learned on Saturday who cast the only first-place vote for Williamson, and he asked that man for an explanation. The Grizzlies also tweeted toward the reporter.
It seemed like Morant was headed toward a unanimous selection after the season he had in Memphis. The 21-year-old averaged 17.8 points, 7.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47.7 % from the field and 33.5 % from beyond the arc.
The second-overall pick earned a spot on the NBA's All-Rookie First Team and led the Grizzlies to a play-in game in the Western Conference. Unfortunately for Morant, Memphis lost that game to the Portland Trail Blazers.
