Over the weekend, the Philadelphia 76ers faced off against one player they dealt at the trade deadline. On Tuesday night, they will do so again for the second straight game.
The final move Daryl Morey and the Sixers made at the deadline this year was parting ways with Jaden Springer. He was sent to the Boston Celtics in exchange for a second-round pick.
Ahead of this matchup against his former team, Springer shared his thoughts on some of the differences between the Sixers and Celtics.
"I feel like it's more read and react. You going out there and playing based off each other," Springer told reporters last week. "Playing based off your teammates, so you're just reading what everyone else is doing. It's not really set, we have to do this, we have to do that. Just going out there hooping, playing basketball."
The Sixers drafted Springer in 2021 with the 28th overall selection. As an extremely young and raw prospect, it was clear he was taken with the intent on being a long-term project.
During his time with the Sixers, Springer spent most of his time in the G-League to hone his skills. Across two-and-a-half seasons, he played in just 50 total games at the NBA level. In that time, he averaged 3.4 PPG and 1.5 RPG.
Since arriving in Boston, the 21-year-old has seen little to no time on the court. He's made appearances in two gams, but only logged a total of three minutes.
Tuesday will be the fourth and final meeting between the Sixers and Celtics this season. Boston enters this matchup with a 2-1 lead in the season series.
