Jae'Sean Tate, Cade Cunningham grind out win in Rising Stars event

The first Rising Stars game on Friday night set the bar high, but the second one reached it.

Jae'Sean Tate of the Rockets hit the game-winning shot to power Team Barry to a 50-48 victory and carry it to the finals against Team Isiah. The game was played under first-to-50-wins rules.

Much like the first contest, the game was even-paced for much of its untimed duration. Neither team led by more than six points, and both teams entered the 40s at roughly the same time.

The Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga, who was named as an injury replacement just days ago, tied up the score at 42 with a turnaround inside the paint. Two possessions later, Cade Cunningham of the Pistons answered with a go-ahead two and Tate hit a free throw to put Team Barry up three.

Evan Mobley of the hometown Cavaliers extended the lead to four with a free throw of his own, but the Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels cut it to just one with a three moments later. Then, after a series of misses, LaMelo Ball of the Hornets put Team Payton up one with a putback layup.

Tate wasn't going to go down easily, however. He answered with a tap-in of his own on the next possession, making it 48-47 Team Barry with both teams holding the power to end it with one shot.

After Cunningham missed a jumper, Ball was fouled moments later, but could hit only one free throw to make it 48-48. On the final possession, Tate took the ball off the dribble into the paint and hit the game-winner on an acrobatic layup.

Tate finished with seven points and six rebounds, while Mobley and Cunningham both scored 13. McDaniels led Team Payton with 12 while Bones Hyland of the Nuggets poured in 10.
