Jason Terry to become new head coach of G League's Grand Rapids Gold
The Grand Rapids Gold, G League affiliate of the Denver Nuggets, are set to have a new head coach.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports former NBA guard Jason Terry is leaving his post as an assistant coach with the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball program to accept the Grand Rapids gig:
Terry spent 19 seasons playing in the NBA and was an assistant at his alma mater during the 2020-21 campaign. According to Ryan Kelapire of Arizona Desert Swarm, however, the 43-year-old had previously been linked with an opening on the Dallas Mavericks’ coaching staff this summer and admitted to Zach Gelb of CBS Sports in June he ultimately wants to become a head coach at the highest level.
"Don’t rule out me being on a bench here in the NBA," Terry told Gelb at that time. "I also have aspired to give my 19 years of experience and knowledge to these young guys (at Arizona) and mentor these guys and show them the way. We’ll see what the cards hold but I’m enjoying my time at Arizona under the leadership of Tommy Lloyd and back at my alma mater, so I’m having fun doing what I do."
Per ESPN, Terry was assistant general manager for the G League's Texas Legends from September 2019 through May 2020.
