Jaylen Brown sidesteps question about Grant Williams 'poking the bear' in Jimmy Butler
Dillon Brooks may have been the one to go viral for his "I poke bears" comment, but no one found out in a tougher fashion than Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
With the Boston Celtics down 1-0 after a stunning Game 1 victory on the road by the Miami Heat, the series looked to be on the verge of moving to 1-1. That is, until Williams "poked the bear" in Jimmy Butler, a decision that immediately went viral after it happened.
Williams hit a three-pointer in the fourth quarter and decided he'd have a few words in Butler's face after doing so, and Butler's reaction essentially told the rest of the story.
The Heat went on a 24-9 run after that point, and Butler was dominant once again in this game. The way things played out is legitimately why the old saying is to never "poke the bear," and Williams found out the hard way.
While Butler simply grinned after it happened, things escalated a bit shortly after. It's obvious the incident helped ignite Butler and the Heat, but after the game, Celtics star Jaylen Brown was asked if he thought Williams made a mistake by "poking the bear" with Butler, a question he opted not to answer, as Bleacher Report revealed.
Williams' three put the Celtics up by nine with 6:37 remaining in the game, but immediately after the play, Butler proceeded to draw an and-one on Williams and got right into his face. Over the span of the next few minutes, Butler scored on Williams three times, including a bucket to first tie the game, followed by one to take the lead immediately after.
The Celtics find themselves not only down 2-0 in the series but heading on the road to Miami for Games 3 and 4. To make matters worse, Boston has had no answer for Butler to this point, as the 33-year-old All-Star wrapped up Game 2 with 27 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks. Although the Celtics have been good on the road this year, the Butler factor alone is going to make winning one, yet alone two games in Miami, a daunting task.
