Jayson Tatum approaching Celtics record held by Larry Bird

The Boston Celtics knocked off the Portland Trailblazers Wednesday night, 115-93, thanks in large part to another impressive offensive effort from star Jayson Tatum.

Tatum finished 11-of-17 from the field and 6-of-10 from beyond the arc, with seven rebounds, two assists and a game-high 30 points. According to ESPN Stats and Info, Tatum has 36 games of 30 or more points this season, one shy of tying Larry Bird for the third-most in franchise history during a single season.

Furthermore, Tatum is only four such games from surpassing Bird for the Celtics' record of 39 30-point games, which the Hall of Famer recorded during the 1987-88 campaign.

The Celtics have only 15 games remaining on their regular-season schedule, but the record is obtainable for Tatum. The four-time All-Star has nine 30-plus point games over his last 15 games alone, including Wednesday night's performance.

If all goes well, Tatum will own the Celtics' record soon. More impressively, he'll be passing Bird twice atop the franchise leaderboard to do so, which isn't too shabby.

Tatum has paced the Celtics offense all season long, ranking sixth in the NBA in scoring (30.3) and averaging 8.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists, with a 46 percent field-goal percentage.

Following Wednesday's victory, the Celtics improved to 46-21 and now trail the Milwaukee Bucks (47-18) by only two games for the Eastern Conference lead.
