There is no doubt that Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics is having one incredible NBA season.
The forward is averaging 26.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists a game.
Meanwhile, his Celtics are surging in the East and are doing much, much better than they were just months ago.
But Tatum’s success isn’t just impressive – it’s historic.
There are only three players in the NBA who have multiple 50-point games this season: Tatum, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant.
That means that Tatum is in some fine, fine company and is sitting pretty with some of the best players to ever do it.
Tatum For MVP
Tatum is now officially a part of the MVP conversation for the first time this year.
According to Sports Illustrated, Tatum now has a better chance that Mavericks star Luka Doncic at winning that coveted trophy.
Now, is it possible for Tatum to surpass some of the big names battling it out for MVP?
That will be a tough task because this year’s MVP race is more stacked than usual.
Some of the men trying to rise to the top include Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and DeMar DeRozan.
As you can tell, that is some stiff competition.
But even if he doesn’t win MVP, the success of Tatum’s season is plain to see.
Not only is he creating history along with James and Durant, he is also stepping up as a team leader and assisting his team in ways that go beyond point totals.
Many people had written off the Celtics this year after some rough patches early in the season.
But they have really turned things around, in large part due to Tatum.
Beyond the records and stats, that is the biggest victory of them all.
