Who will start at point guard for the Jazz? It’s early, but it seems kind of late to be asking that question.

We are, after all, more than a week into training camp and the preseason. And it appears this is who’s secured the job — nobody.

The list of candidates seems to include Collin Sexton, Talen Horton-Tucker, Kris Dunn, Keyonte George and Jordan Clarkson.

George is just a rookie and Clarkson is more of a scorer. The Jazz also tend to like Clarkson in a sparkplug-off-the-bench, sixth-man role.

Meanwhile, Sexton and Horton-Tucker aren’t natural point guards. And if you start Dunn, it likely means one of the aforementioned is getting less playing time (probably Sexton).

So with a list this long, you can’t help but wonder if coach Will Hardy has a bunch of capable starting point guards … or none.

With all this in mind, the Jazz contemplated the idea of trading for Jrue Holiday after he was dealt from the Bucks to the Trail Blazers, per Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune. But Utah may have been concerned with his long-term commitment, given that he has a player option on his contract. Holiday was traded to the Celtics instead.

What do the Jazz do now? Some sources suggest if they don’t figure it out, they could still try to make a trade before the regular season begins. Or they could just let it play out and wait for someone to stand up and claim the job before making a move.

All we really know is there doesn’t seem to be an answer at the moment.
