Jeff Van Gundy, Tyronn Lue potential choices for next Rockets coach?

Current ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy and Los Angeles Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue could be candidates to interview for the Houston Rockets head coaching job if Mike D’Antoni departs the organization following the NBA restart occurring at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Athletic's Sam Amick reported on Thursday that "many" people around the league believe that D’Antoni, 69 years old, will leave Houston when the club's season is over, and Amick added that Van Gundy and Lue could both receive calls from the franchise.

It's perceived Van Gundy is the leading candidate.

Van Gundy is no stranger to the Rockets, as he coached Houston from 2003 through the team's short stint in the 2007 NBA Playoffs. That was the last time Van Gundy served as a head coach in the Association.

Lue, meanwhile, took over as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in January 2016 after the club fired David Blatt. The Cavs defeated the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals the subsequent June.

Lue and the Cavs parted ways in October 2018, and he has worked with the Clippers since December of that year.
