Former NBA guard Jerry Stackhouse is likely on the way out as head coach at Vanderbilt University after what has been one of the worst seasons in program history, per Aria Gerson of the Nashville Tennessean.

Stackhouse has been coaching the Commodores for five seasons and compiled a 70-92 record, including a 9-23 mark this year. Vanderbilt has received zero NCAA tournament bids under Stackhouse.

The former North Carolina and NBA standout was hired in 2019 after serving as an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies.

“On the whole, Stackhouse struggled to retain his top players, as starters Myles Stute and Jordan Wright transferred to SEC schools after the 2022-23 season and several other bench players left the program,” Gerson wrote. “In his 2021 recruiting class, all three signees were gone within a year.”

Stackhouse, 49, appeared in 970 career NBA games with the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets from 1995-2013.

He carries NBA career averages of 16.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists, making the All-Star team on two occasions (1999-2000 and 2000-01).
