Before the season started last week, it had been some time since John Wall of the Los Angeles Clippers played NBA basketball.
In fact, after being traded to the Houston Rockets a couple of seasons ago, Wall’s entire career looked to be in jeopardy.
Wall tore his Achilles in February 2018 and missed all of 2019-20 because of that while still with the Washington Wizards.
He was then sent to Houston in December 2020.
Injuries made him miss many games and then he was benched entirely as he and the team agreed to go their separate ways and the front office sat him out to retain a high trade value.
Wall certainly wasn’t a fan of this.
Asked about how he felt sitting on the sidelines for that long stretch, Wall was quite honest, saying he was “pissed as hell. I wanted to play basketball.”
Now Wall is ready to remind everyone what they were missing out on as he sat out of the game.
He’s prepared to make up for the lost time.
Wall Returns
The benching of Wall is understanding because the Rockets were attempting to build their young core.
But Wall is over it and was obviously ready to dive headfirst into the game when he was signed by the Los Angeles Clippers.
So far, he has shown the sort of enthusiasm that fans expected.
Wall has averaged 14.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists a game.
His field goal percentage has been an impressive, even 50% and he’s entered the court with pizzazz and a fire in his belly.
Wall looks like a great fit for this Clippers squad.
Will he again reach his career averages of 19.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 9 assists?
That’s possible, especially if the Clippers continue to take a measured approach to Kawhi Leonard‘s minutes.
