Kemba Walker's knee injury is 'just general soreness,' says Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau

New York Knicks point guard Kemba Walker won't require surgery on his injured left knee, coach Tom Thibodeau revealed Tuesday.

“Yeah, it came back positive, so just general soreness,’’ Thibodeau said of Walker's knee exams, via the New York Post. “So, it’ll be day-to-day. We want everything to calm down with him.”

Walker, 31, was shut down Friday night after his knee "didn't feel right" during warmups for a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He then didn't make the trip to Toronto for the Knicks' Sunday game against the Raptors. Walker also sat out the Knicks' 104-94 win over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.

In December, Walker was a surprising comeback story after he was a healthy scratch for the Knicks in nine straight games. A COVID breakout allowed Walker to re-enter the lineup and he took advantage with 94 points over a three-game span followed by his third career triple-double during a Christmas win against the Atlanta Hawks.

Walker's play tailed off after that hot streak and he scored just 12 points in two games before he was scratched before the game against the Thunder.
