Typically, when the Philadelphia 76ers are the topic of an NBA-related discussion, the conversation tends to revolve around the team’s stars, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

One former player-turned-analyst believes that a Sixers’ role-player deserves a lot more credit for his contributions to the team.

As the Sixers battled it out with last year’s champs, the Denver Nuggets, Perkins couldn’t help but feel like Nic Batum deserved a shoutout for what he brings to the table. The former NBA big man took to X to highlight Batum’s play.

Since Batum has suited up for the Sixers, the veteran forward has often been described as one of, if not the best, fits alongside Joel Embiid in the Sixers’ frontcourt.

Although the Sixers didn’t start the 2023-2024 NBA season with Batum on their roster, they quickly landed the French veteran as they acquired him from the Los Angeles Clippers in the trade that granted James Harden his wish to head out West.

While the Sixers initially desired an All-Star caliber player in return for Embiid, the package of role players they landed has made the trade worth it so far, and Batum is a key reason for that.

Since moving to Philadelphia, Batum has averaged 25 minutes on the court in 24 games. He has averaged six points, four rebounds, and two assists. He’s drained 52 percent of his shots from the field and has knocked down 47 percent of his threes on several attempts per game.

The numbers are solid for a fourth or fifth option in the Sixers’ starting five, but as Perkins pointed out, Batum’s value goes beyond the stat sheet itself.

Being a seasoned veteran, Batum has plenty of experience in the game and has shown value in all areas of the game. While efficient shooting might be his bread and butter so far on the Sixers, Batum has excelled in the passing department and on defense as well.

As long as Batum can remain healthy, the Sixers expect the 35-year-old to be a key contributor if and when they clinch a spot in the NBA Playoffs.
