Kevin Durant: Relationship with Draymond Green was 'pretty perfect' before 2018 fight

Kevin Durant had a short-but-memorable run with the Warriors, winning two NBA titles in three seasons before heading off to team up with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn. However, his Golden State was also filled with controversy, which seemed to stem from a confrontation between himself and Draymond Green. During an appearance on "The Corp" podcast, Durant acknowledged the tension that developed from that moment, saying that his relationship with Green was "pretty perfect" before their blow-up fight.

"Our relationship was pretty perfect up until we had an argument in the court in L.A.," Durant said.

In November 2018, the Warriors were coming off their first championship with Durant, but during a game against the Clippers, Durant and Green got into it after Green held onto the ball to take a potential game-winning shot rather than pass it to Durant. In the ensuing fight, Green apparently told Durant that the team didn't need him to win. The two tried to downplay the event but Durant says it sparked too much interest with the media to go away.

"After that, media members just wanted to get deeper into the story and figure out why, why that happened," Durant explained.

While the Warriors were still able to win it all that year, it seemed like the turning point for Durant deciding to leave the team. But Durant didn't seem too phased by the whole thing, saying that fights like these are simply a part of being on a team.

"It can get overwhelming at times, especially for the rest of the guys on the team," Durant said. "I understood why it was a big deal because we were champions and that was the first blow up and everyone looked at us as the perfect team. That's just how basketball is. That's how sports is. You get into, you move on, and you figure it out."
