UPDATE: Trade is official …

The Kings are closing in a trade for Nets second-year small forward Kessler Edwards, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

In return for Edwards, Sacramento will send Edwards and cash, giving Brooklyn some salary relief, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN

The Nets also landed the draft rights to David Michineau as part of deal. Since he’s overseas, Brooklyn created a roster spot with the trade.

Edwards holds veto power over any trade, though he was expected to approve the deal, Wojnarowski added. Once completed, it will save the Nets “a total of $8 million in salary and luxury tax and open up a roster spot,” Wojnarowski wrote.

Edwards, 22, was the No. 44 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and appeared in 48 games last season, averaging 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds. He has played 14 games with Brooklyn this year, spending the rest of his time with the Long Island Nets of the G League.

For now, it seems, Edwards will have a role with the Kings, or at least their G League affiliate in Stockton.

Meanwhile, there is always the chance that the Edwards deal will lead to another trade in Brooklyn. We will have continuing coverage here at Hoops Wire and on our Nets page and Kings page.
