The Kings intend to exercise the $2.6 team option on power forward Trey Lyles‘ contract, per James Ham of The Kings Beat.

Lyles, 26, is 6-foot-9 and was acquired by the Kings from the Pistons in February as part of a four-team trade that also included the Bucks and Jazz.

Overall last season, he averaged 10.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 75 games. That included a career-high 10.6 points and 5.6 boards in 24 appearances with the Kings, in which he started 20 times.

He may be used as primarily a reserve in 2022-23, given that the Kings still have Harrison Barnes and used the No. 4 overall pick on forward Keegan Murray. Still, Lyle’s underrated performance with the Kings makes it easy to understand why they would want him back for another run.

Sacramento recently hired Mike Brown as head coach, and is looking to break its playoff drought of 16 years.
