The Kings have exercised the third-year rookie-scale option on guard Davion Mitchell, the team announced in a press release.

Mitchell, 24, is 6-foot-12 and was drafted with the No. 9 pick out of Baylor in 2021. He is viewed as a major part of the Kings’ future, so the move is considered a formality.

Last season as a rookie, he averaged 11.5 points and 4.2 assists, proving to be a capable backup to De’Aaron Fox, as well as playing alongside Fox at times.

Mitchell also showed flashes of becoming a top-notch backcourt defender, something that is sure to earn him favor with grit-and-grind coach Mike Brown.
