Kings rookie Tyrese Haliburton to get MRI after exiting vs. Mavericks with knee injury

The Sacramento Kings took down the Dallas Mavericks 111-99 on Sunday, but they lost rookie Tyrese Haliburton to a knee injury in the process.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Haliburton will undergo an MRI on Monday and the Kings are optimistic he avoided a serious injury.

Haliburton suffered the injury in the third quarter. He went behind his back with the dribble to change direction, and in the process, his right foot hit Josh Richardson's heel.

After the game, Kings head coach Luke Walton said he was hopeful Haliburton would be okay.

"We'll hope for the best," Walton said, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. "We won't know anything until tomorrow. We'll find out after the MRI. I'm not going to guess on it. ... We're very hopeful that it's not (serious), but there's no reason for me to guess right now."

Haliburton has been one of the best rookies in the league this season. The 21-year-old is averaging 13 points, three rebounds and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 47.2% from the field and 40.9% from deep.

Although he won't win Rookie of the Year, Haliburton should be a lock for the All-Rookie First Team. If he makes the cut, it will be the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Kings had a player on an All-Rookie team.
