As the timer on Thursday's NBA trade deadline ticks down, the Dallas Mavericks apparently have a lot of activity going on, including active discussions with the Charlotte Hornets revolving around P.J. Washington.

According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, the Mavs have also had some trade discussions with the New York Knicks as of late. However, the details from that report are a little confusing. We will try to make sense of all of it, though.

"Dallas attempted to trade for Knicks guard Quentin Grimes in talks that primarily centered around Josh Green, but that overture was rejected by New York, league sources told HoopsHype," Scotto wrote.

Given how well Josh Green has played since returning from his early-season elbow injury, the only way this report really makes sense to us is if the Mavs were attempting to get their first-round pick back from the Knicks. If the Mavs fall outside of the top-10 worst teams this season in the draft order, their pick will convey to the Knicks in order to complete the 2019 deal they made for Kristaps Porzingis.

If that's the case, we can definitely see why New York turned down the offer. However, if it was just Green for Grimes straight up? Well, perhaps that offer should've never been made in the first place. Stay tuned to DallasBasketball.com for Mavs trade-related updates throughout the day.
