Kyrie Irving is back playing in home games for the Brooklyn Nets, but he still seems to lack any sense of self-awareness.

The Nets lost an important game to the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. With the win, the Hornets jumped the Nets for eighth in the Eastern Conference.

Afterwards, Irving, who was playing in his first home game this season, complained about the team’s schedule having played back-to-back games.

“I wish we had a day of rest at least,” he said, per Nets writer Ajayi Brown.

Irving got roasted for the remark as he literally just got back to being a full-time player after New York City tweaked its private-sector vaccine mandate, allowing Irving to play in home games again. For Irving to complain about the team’s schedule when he voluntarily sat out 53 games this season came across as pretty rich. Back-to-backs are also a well-established reality of the NBA season. Meanwhile, the Nets got two days off before the back-to-back set and now have another day off on Monday.

The seven-time All-Star Irving may have been trying to make the point that the Nets as a whole could have used an extra day off. But part of the reason the entire roster has been stretched so thin in the first place is all the time that Irving has missed.
