The Los Angeles Lakers are hard at work right now.

Of course, they’ve been out of playoff contention for weeks now but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been an awful lot going on behind the scenes.

Recently, the team named Darvin Ham as the new head coach.

Ham got to work and started to assemble his coaching staff.

Meanwhile, the search for more players to improve the roster continues.

It is being reported that the Lakers held a workout with NBA free agents earlier in the week – and it was filled with some veteran talent.

Langston Galloway, Kyle Guy, Alize Johnson, Louis King, and DJ Wilson all participated in the workout.

You might not immediately know these names but their inclusion means one thing: the Lakers are looking to fill their bench with proven, reliable, cheap athletes.

Getting More For Less

It’s no secret that the Lakers don’t have a whole lot of money to play with in the offseason.

They are hoping to land more talent for the troubled team but they need to do it for cheap.

Galloway, Guy, Johnson, and the others are all guys who have spent several years in the league, bouncing around teams and not getting a whole lot of minutes.

This means that they won’t cost much to sign – which is good news for LA’s front office.

A couple of these players – such as Galloway and Wilson – played under Ham when he was the assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks.

So what we have here is Ham putting together a staff and team that he thinks can really work best for him.

It remains to be seen how this all works out but Ham is obviously moving forward with confidence and trust from the front office – that sounds encouraging.
