Tuesday night’s Western Conference play-in game was a showdown to remember, with the Los Angeles Lakers edging out the New Orleans Pelicans 110-106 to secure a playoff berth. LeBron James led the way with 23 points, 9 assists, and 9 rebounds, pushing the Lakers into the postseason.

Zion Williamson, in a stellar postseason debut, scored 40 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. However, his night was cut short after a game-tying layup late in the fourth quarter due to left leg soreness.

Williamson exited the game visibly upset, his injury casting a shadow over his impressive performance. “He’s going to have some imaging on it tomorrow, and we’ll figure out more,” commented Pelicans coach Willie Green post-game.

In Williamson’s absence, the Lakers capitalized, with Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell stepping up to seal the game. Davis finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Russell added 21 points, including crucial three-pointers. Their efforts helped the Lakers stave off a resilient Pelicans squad that fought back from an 18-point deficit.

The Lakers now prepare to face the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets in what promises to be an exciting first-round playoff matchup. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are set to challenge the play-in winner between the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings.

Despite Williamson’s heroic efforts, the Pelicans struggled from beyond the arc, making only 9 of 29 attempts. Conversely, the Lakers found their rhythm, hitting 14 out of 35 three-point attempts. Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum had off nights for New Orleans, contributing to their uphill battle throughout the game.

The game was marked by several momentum swings, with the Lakers pulling ahead significantly before the Pelicans, led by Williamson and Trey Murphy III’s sharpshooting, clawed back into contention.

As the Lakers look ahead to their rematch with the Nuggets, they carry the confidence of a team capable of executing under pressure. The Pelicans will focus on recovery and preparation as they hope for a quick return for Williamson ahead of their next critical matchup.
