Lakers inch closer to postseason elimination with sixth straight loss

Both Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook came close to recording triple-doubles against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, but it wasn't enough in a 129-118 loss for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers, whch were without LeBron James due to an ankle injury, have now dropped six straight and fell further behind the San Antonio Spurs for the final spot in the Western Conference play-in tournament. Los Angeles entered the day a game behind the Spurs, which have a chance to stretch their lead to two games when they play the Portland Trail Blazers later Sunday.

Davis, who missed all of March with a foot injury, recorded 28 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, three blocks and two steals in the loss. Westbrook had 27 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Denver's reigning NBA MVP Nikola Jokic added to his case to win the award for a second straight season with 38 points, six assists and 18 rebounds against the Lakers. 

Denver also got 25 points out of Will Barton and 24 from Aaron Gordon, respectively.

The Nuggets improved to 47-32 and moved into fifth in the Western Conference standings, a half-game ahead of the Utah Jazz.
