Lakers to interview Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin for head-coaching vacancy

According to The Athletics' Shams Charania, the Los Angeles Lakers will interview Toronto Raptors assistant coach Adrian Griffin for their vacant head-coaching job.

Griffin has been an assistant with the Raptors since the 2018-19 season. He was a member of Nick Nurse's staff for the Raptors' NBA title run in 2019.

The 47-year-old Griffin began his career in the NBA as a player, playing nine seasons. He averaged 4.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game over 477 career regular-season contests. Griffin spent time with the Boston Celtics (1999-2001), Dallas Mavericks (2001-2003, 2005-2006), Houston Rockets (2004-2005), Chicago Bulls (2006-2008) and Seattle Supersonics (2007-2008).

After retiring as an active player, Griffin received his first NBA assistant job with the Milwaukee Bucks ahead of the 2008-09 season. Griffin has been an assistant with five NBA teams, including the Bucks (2008-2010), Bulls (2010-2015), Orlando Magic (2015-2016) and Oklahoma City Thunder (2016-2018), before taking a job with the Raptors in 2018.

Griffin is the second candidate to be brought in by the Lakers since they fired Frank Vogel on April 11. Los Angeles previously requested permission to interview Bucks' assistant Darvin Ham
