LeBron James authors children's book titled 'I Promise'

LeBron James has many great qualities, and basketball is just one of  them.

The Los Angeles Lakers star has taken his talents to the world of writing and now is a children's book author, according to TMZ.

James' book titled "I Promise" is set to be released on Aug. 11. It's a 40-page picture book that features "upbeat, rhyming text" based on a poem written by the three-time NBA champion, TMZ added.

"Books have the ability to teach, inspire, and bring people together," James said. "That's why these books, and the opportunity to get children and parents reading together, mean so much to me."

The artwork for the book was done by illustrator Nina Mata, who also worked with Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez on her kids book titled "She's Got This."

The name of James' book was inspired by his "I Promise" program, which motivates children to be the best they can be. James opened his "I Promise" school for at-risk children in Akron, Ohio in 2018.

The book also is accompanied by a companion audiobook read by his mother Gloria.

This children's book is only the start of James' writing career. According to TMZ, he's working on a "middle grade" book that is set to be revealed in 2021.
