LeBron James comments on Warriors trade rumor

Following the NBA trade deadline, word leaked that several teams, including the Golden State Warriors, made a play for Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

Appearing alongside the "Inside the NBA" panel ahead of Sunday's All-Star Game in Indiana, James said the trade whispers were news to him.

"I actually heard about it when everybody else heard about it," James told TNT. "There's conversations that happen behind closed doors that you don't even know about until, I guess, if it's real or not. Then they'll bring it to you."

It may be hard to believe that a player in James's position wouldn't know if his team was discussing a trade. However, it makes sense if the Lakers didn't plan on entertaining any of the offers. Though considering the Hall of Famer's uncertain future after this season, it's fair to wonder how deep the conversations were.

According to a report from insider Romona Shelburne, the trade talks were viewed as "top secret," and weren't supposed to leak out to the general public.

James has possibly hinted at change, recently posting an hourglass emoji on X following a tough stretch for the Lakers. What he meant by his ominous social media post is anyone's guess. However, it's clear that time is running out on the four-time MVP's career, which means he's looking to win now, whether it be with the Lakers or another team.

The Warriors have shown interest in James in the past, and a recent report indicates that they plan on continuing their pursuit this offseason. James could hit free agency this summer if he bypasses a player option with the Lakers for 2024-25, worth $51.4 million. He'll have until June 29 to exercise it or be free to sign with any NBA team.
