LeBron James confirms he wants to play with his son Bronny before he retires
Not surprisingly, LeBron James has sent the sports world abuzz with comments he made during his media availability over All-Star weekend in Cleveland.
But perhaps the most interesting assertion is that plans to play his final season in the NBA wherever his son plays.
"My last year will be played with my son," James told The Athletic's Jason Lloyd. "Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point."
Now, as Lloyd notes, a father-son duo isn't a done deal just because James wants it that way. His son is currently a junior in high school -- and already a legitimate basketball prospect -- and won't be eligible to enter the NBA draft for another two years. James, on the other hand, is nearing the end of his contract with the Lakers and will have one year in limbo before Bronny can enter the league.
With James set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023, he was of course asked if he would consider returning to Cleveland to have his swan song with the Cavaliers before hanging up his sneakers.
James chose to leave his answer open-ended.
"The door’s not closed on that," he said. "I’m not saying I’m coming back and playing, I don’t know..."
