The Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the 2024 NBA Playoffs on Monday night and Lakers rumors started swirling almost instantly. The 2024 offseason is going to be a busy one for the team as they look to reclaim their spot as contenders in the Western Conference.

There are some major tasks on their to-do list, starting with the future of LeBron James. He is widely expected to hit free agency this summer, but the expectation is that he will re-sign with the Lakers.

Anything can happen in free agency, so fans will be nervous about their team’s outlook until James puts pen to paper on a new contract. While they focus on who could be on the roster next season, the coaching staff will likely look different as well.

For a while, Lakers rumors have persisted about the job security of head coach Darvin Ham. He has become a meme on social media for his lack of urgency when opponents go on runs against his team. In-game adjustments and some poor lineup management have brought him under fire.

Many fans would like to see him relieved of his duties, and they could very well get their wish. According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, there is an expectation that Ham will be terminated by the end of the week.

“The latest I’ve heard is the plan is still to move on from Darvin [Ham] at some point, likely by the end of the week, potentially as early as tomorrow, then the head coaching search will start. I’ve already started to hear some names from different people,” Buha said via The Athletic NBA Show podcast.

In two seasons with the Lakers, Ham has compiled a record of 90-74 in the regular season and 9-12 in the postseason. Eight of those 12 postseason losses have come at the hands of the Nuggets, who went 8-1 against the Lakers in the postseason and have won 12 out of the last 13 matchups between the teams.

The coaching carousel in the NBA is going to start heating up. There are already a few job openings around the league and some big ones, such as the Lakers and Phoenix Suns, could open up sooner rather than later.
