Luguentz Dort outscores entire Mavericks team in OT, leads Thunder to win

Luguentz Dort was too much for the Mavericks on Wednesday. Literally.

Dort outscored the entire Mavericks team by himself in overtime to help power the Thunder to a 120-114 win. Dort scored 14 in the extra frame, while Dallas could only muster 11.

It was a pretty typical game for Dort during regulation, as he ended the fourth quarter with 16 points, right around his average. He went absolutely nuclear in overtime, though, scoring all but three of Oklahoma City's points; coincidentally the first and last, as Kenrich Williams started the scoring with a dunk and Tre Mann hit a free throw in the final seconds.

Dallas never led in overtime, thanks largely to Dort. He put Oklahoma City up three with a triple around a minute in, and after a pair of free throws by the Arizona State product, Luka Doncic scored to cut it back to three. After that, though, it was never a one-possession game, as Dort put the Thunder up five with under two minutes to go and they never looked back.

Dort's Herculean performance erased a miraculous comeback by the Mavericks, as they trailed by seven points with two minutes left in regulation. Much of that was due to Doncic, who scored seven points in that time. Williams tied the game with a layup with 7.5 seconds left, and Doncic couldn't connect on a game-winner.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Dort's 14 points in overtime ties him with Russell Westbrook for the most points in an overtime period by a Thunder/SuperSonics player over the last 25 years. Westbrook scored 14 in overtime on Nov. 30, 2016 in a win over the Wizards.

Dort finished with 30 points, six rebounds and three assists, raising his averages to 16.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game on the year. Mann scored 29, while rookie Josh Giddey added 14 points and 10 assists. Doncic led all scorers with 40 points.
