The Orlando Magic have officially signed free agent guard/forward  Miye Oni, President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced Friday. In addition, to comply with the 21-man roster requirements, the team had to waive forward D.J. Wilson.

Oni, 26, 6-foot-5, was a standout at Yale, playing three collegiate seasons, in which he averaged 15.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1 block, and .9 steals. The 2018-19 Ivy League Player of the Year went on to be selected as the 58th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors.

With his draft rights then being traded to the Jazz, Oni appeared in 80 games across three seasons in Utah, averaging 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.4 minutes of playing time. With his size and athleticism, Oni has proven his capability to hang with NBA wings, but has yet to develop into a consistent rotation player.

In January 2022, Oni was traded from the Jazz to the Thunder but was subsequently waived thereafter. Then later in the 2021-22 season, he signed with the Pelicans on a 10-day contract but did not appear in any games with the team.

As a result, since reaching free agency last summer, Oni played overseas in the British Basketball League, when he signed with the London Lions during the 2022-23 season. Upon his arrival, Oni played in 12 games and helped lead the Lions to a championship and a spot in the EuroCup Playoffs, while averaging 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 22.3 minutes per game.
