The Magic have waived guard/forward Miye Oni, per the NBA transactions log.

The move comes five days after Orlando signed Oni to an Exhibit 10 training camp contract. That means he is likely headed to the Osceola Magic of the G League, where he’ll be eligible for a $75,000 bonus should he remain with the team for 60 days.

Oni, 26, is 6-foot-5 and was a standout at Yale, playing three collegiate seasons, in which he averaged 15.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1 block, and .9 steals. The 2018-19 Ivy League Player of the Year went on to be selected with the 58th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors.

Oni has proven his capability to hang with NBA wings but has yet to develop into a consistent rotation player.

In January 2022, Oni was traded from the Jazz to the Thunder but was subsequently waived thereafter. Then later in the 2021-22 season, he signed with the Pelicans on a 10-day contract but did not appear in any games with the team.

As a result, since reaching free agency last summer, Oni played overseas in the British Basketball League, when he signed with the London Lions during the 2022-23 season. Upon his arrival, Oni played in 12 games and helped lead the Lions to a championship and a spot in the EuroCup Playoffs, while averaging 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 22.3 minutes per game.
