Malcolm Brogdon seemingly debunks idea he'll be traded by Blazers

Malcolm Brogdon found his name involved in various trade rumors in recent months and he was even nearly part of a trade which would have sent him to the Memphis Grizzlies. And after what was surely a tough offseason filled with rumors flying around the internet, the former Boston Celtics guard landed with the Portland Trail Blazers as a part of a series of deals that sent Jrue Holiday from the Milwaukee, to Portland and then finally to Boston.

After Brogdon was acquired by the Blazers in a deal which also included former Celtics big man Robert Williams and two first-round picks, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it was believed that Portland would stick with their young core of guards and possibly move the reigning Sixth Man of the Year once again.

But as Brogdon told Blazers beat reporter Casey Holdahl, both he and the organization want the guard to remain as a member of the Trail Blazers. As Brogdon put it, “there’s a lot of misleading information out there about they need to trade me or I want to go.”

“They want me here, I want to be here. There’s a lot of misleading information out there about they need to trade me or I want to go… I’m embracing being here.” Brogdon said, per Holdahl.

Assuming things play out with Brogdon remaining a Blazer, it’d be nothing short of a major surprise. While he would be another playmaker and veteran leader to add to a young Portland backcourt, there were rumblings that the team didn’t have interest in Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro, potentially due to the desire to build around Scoot Henderson and Anfernee Simons, among others.

Regardless, nothing is guaranteed in the NBA, but for the time being, Brogdon is a member of the Blazers and no direct report linking him to any deal points to that changing – at least in the immediate future.
